12/8/2023 0 Comments Acorn tv reviewsI remember joking with my friend about this- why’s it always an antique? Season two then went in a different direction and just had Jean showing up at crime scenes whenever she wanted and consulting as though she were a detective herself, which again felt slightly farfetched just in the opposite direction. I get that this was the French Riviera where antiques were supposedly a dime a dozen but it still felt slightly implausible at times that every single murder case would have such a precious antique involved that Jean would immediately need to be called on. I think because The Madame Blanc Mysteries was so surrounded by antiques the show really stretched itself at times when coming up with a legitimate reason for Jean to be getting involved in these cases, so much so that this format was dropped slightly in the second season. The series made for a perfect rainy day watch with the weather we’ve been having recently and if anything I’m now desperate to visit the South or France. With this being a mystery series we also got some great weekly cases and I really liked how the writing blended together your typical murder mystery with the history of whatever piece was involved. Madame Blanc was definitely your typical Acorn TV escapism watch and I really enjoyed the classic blend of sun, sleuthing and of course murder! The French Riviera setting made for an especially nice touch and I really loved the visuals of it all as well as the history lessons we got each episode via Jean and the antiques, it was actually all pretty interesting. Can Jean solve Rory’s murder whilst also helping out her new neighbours and friends in their minor cases or will Rory’s second wife get to her first and send her the same way as her husband? Now in the French Riviera where some of the most hidden treasures can be found Jean finds herself turning amateur sleuth as she becomes involved in several murder investigations, finding a second life for herself despite the circumstances. Whilst the police continue to process Rory’s murder Jean begins offering up her services as an antiques expert, often leading to the most strange and dangerous circumstances. Deciding to stay in France, Jean then befriends local taxi driver Dom (Steve Edge) who begins assisting her in her investigation, she becomes convinced Rory was murdered and soon begins receiving threatening letters from his mysterious second wife who identities herself as the killer. What’s more, an expensive ring that Rory had on him just before his death has seemingly vanished making Jean believe all is not as it seems. Flying out to France to see to his body she is shocked to discover Rory seemingly had a second wife and that he was well known for selling fake products. The Madame Blanc Mysteries follows Jean White (Sally Lindsay), an antiques expert from Manchester who is left devastated after the death of her husband Rory. Welcome to Sainte Victoire, a town full of treasure and trouble.
